[WoW Application] Szemere
« on: 23 March, 2011, 12:05:12 pm »
About you:
Applications type (social/raider): Raider
Name: Maarten Vergeer
Age: 19
Country: The Netherlands
What other games apart from WoW do you play? Bought Rift a while ago, might start playing that more.
A bit about yourself: I currently study Computer Science at the University Utrecht. I still live in my parents house in Arnhem though. When I do not play WoW, I love to hang out with friends and drink something, go to the movies sometimes, watching some TV-series.

About your character:
Character name: Szemere
Armory link: eu.battle.net/wow/en/character/haomarush/Szemere/simple
Class: Warlock
Level: 85
Server (if applicable): Haomarush at the moment, used to be on Trollbane.
Professions: Inscription 525 (all possible recipes) and Tailoring, +/- 520.
Played (type /played in game): 80 days. This is however only on my main, which is only my main for a year.
How often do you play WoW (typical weekly playtime and which hours)? Typically most evenings, plus afternoons and nights. Mostly doing daily’s and stuff on afternoons, raiding on evenings, and random stuff during nights (and other times of day when I am not feeling like dailys or not raiding). (Random stuff is leveling alts, doing old content, or just other random fun stuff) I guess that makes it an average of at least 25 hours each week, sometimes much more.
What high level alts do you have? 80 druid (got bored of it multiple times), 85 Death Knight (planning on playing more with that character at some point), +/- 70 Priest (gonna be my 3rd 85, unless I make my druid a farmcharacter, and it hits 85 through herbing:P)

Do you have Teamspeak? (Voice communication is essential to our raiding, although it is not required to have a mic): Yes, able to speak and listen to most voice communication media, like Teamspeak, Skype, and Ventrilo. Mic works fine as well, although I have to get a bit whispery in late hours (after 23.30), but I think having a mic is key to being able to communicate back without having to type, in the middle of for example boss encounters.

List the relevant raiding add-ons you use: Pitbull, Grid, Omen, Recount, Deadly Boss Mods, Dominos, Inline Auras, Power Auras, ForteXorsist, Satrina’s Buff Frames, Quartz, and probably some more I might have forgotten, but not as important/relevant. All of these said addons actually affect my raiding, and sometimes I spend several hours when I decide to change it all around. (Have been using the same setup for quite a while already, so I don’t think it will get altered much soon)

Availability:

Our Raid times are from 20:00 to 0:00 server time with invites starting at 19:30, are you able to be available for the whole duration? Yes, totally. To be more specific:
Thursday: Yes, totally
Sunday: Yes, totally
Monday: Yes, totally
Other days: If I know ahead of time, 19:15 – 0:00, with the exceptions of some Fridays or Saturdays, but most of the time, totally.

Guilds:
Have you been in another guild? Multiple guilds.
Which one(s)? And why did you leave?

  • Semper Frateri (Haomarush) – Failed the trail within 5 days, because their expectations were very high for some strange reason, they expected me to top DPS as well as make almost no mistakes, in 25man heroics, with TOTALLY different tactics on most bosses, compared to 10man normal tactics Discipline used. I never stated to them I was able to pull of such performances, in such short amount of time, and I don’t plan on being in a guild that has such ridiculous requirements in the first week.
  • Discipline (Trollbane) – Raid group had been messy for over 3 months, never been the same group for a week, the leadership in the guild was constantly fighting because of miscommunications, and it was a total drama, which ultimately pushed me and my brother to start searching for a new guild
  • TGF (Trollbane) – Been in there for quite a while, but except for random promotes to meaningless ranks such as classleader (yay, acknowledgement I know more about warlocks than that other warlock), the only good thing about that guild was the main raiding group, which was a solid 10, and the rest of the guild was not important. When my brother offered me a spot in Discipline, I said yes in the end, because I felt like I was being held back by the random guys that got dragged into the secondary raid group. (some friends of the GM, which totally failed at what they did, but still got assigned a spot in our group by the GM (he didn’t care, he was not the one that had to raid with them)).

Experience:

During Wrath, I killed the following bosses while it was the newest content:

4 first Ulduar10 bosses when I still played a different main. (later in wrath, I did 90% of the hardmodes on my current main)

5/5 ToC10, 3/5 ToC25 when I still played a different main. (later in wrath, 4/5 hardmodes on my current main, as well as 5/5 both 10 and 25man normal)

10man: 11/12 ICC Heroic, 12/12 ICC Normal, Glory of ICC Raider drake on my current main, 10/12 ICC Heroic, 12/12 ICC Normal, on my Death Knight tank alt.

25man: 10/12 ICC normal on my main, 5/12 ICC heroic on my Death Knight tank alt.

In Cataclysm:

Glory of the Cataclysm Hero

BWD: 5/6 normal farmed, Nefarian normal down during my Semper Frateri trial, as well as 4/6 heroic during that trial. (Magmaw, Atramedes, Maloriak, Chimaeron)

tBoT: 4/4 normal down, 3/4 farmed, Cho’Gall first kill recently, second kill during Semper Frateri trial. Also Halfus heroic during Semper Frateri trial.

TotFW: Conclave farmed, Al’Akir progressed down to 15%.

Everything I did with Semper Frateri was on 25man, the rest was on 10man. Also, I noticed different guilds can use completely different tactics, so I will of course have to adapt to any tactic being used in MoX.

Character:
Why did you chose the class you are now playing and the professions you selected?:

My warlock is the first character I ever got above level 30, at 55 I got bored of the slow leveling, and switched to a Death Knight, did some blood DPS/unholy DPS raiding halfway wrath, and then decided to migrate to a realm that had Wintergrap more than 1/2 times each week, and actually had some raiding going on. I migrated my warlock, made it my main, and just made a new Death Knight (it is just 25 levels anyways), and raided most of wrath with those 2 characters. I am pretty much interested in most classes, so that is why I have a load of low-level alts, but at the moment I am sticking to my warlock, as I like the playstyle. (because I want to know healing and tanking aspects of fights as well, I want to ultimately also have my Death Knight and my Priest raiding somewhere during Cata, but that is not my main concern at the moment.

Talent specialisation:

Would you be willing to change your build for the guild?:

Totally, if it were a completely new spec, I would have to get used to it of course, but I am experienced with all 3 specs of the Warlock, and I am prepared to change it to fit the needs of the guild, as well as tweak my build if it were not perfect.

Gear:
Do you feel your character is sufficiently geared to compete in Cataclysm 10man raids?:

Totally, only missing an offhand to be full epic, (Halfus won’t drop it), and already the proud owner of 4-set warlock (as soon as I get the meta I will start using my tier head) and 372 shoulders and boots I was able to get from my 5 days at Semper Frateri.

Where do you think your current equipment is lacking now?

Hit, it is not on most items, and just reforging won’t get me capped. However, using a 372 item and having 0.5% mischance is better than having a 359 item, because of the DPS increase from Intellect. At the moment the gear I use is the best gear I have, and if I am lucky enough to find a better piece, or equal piece with more hit, I will of course be using that instead.

Explain why you are using the equipment, gems and enchants you have now specifically if any items are what most would consider ‘non-standard’ for your spec:

Basically I am following the stat-priorities for all warlock specs: First Intellect, then get to the hit cap, and then get as much haste as possible out of the secondary stats. Not having the hit cap might seem off at the moment, but I am as close as I can get, and I am happy with that. As for wrist enchant, didn’t encounter anyone with the Intellect enchant yet, for the hands enchant: 50 haste is better than the 65 mastery or crit enchant which takes a maelstrom crystal. (I am not taking a dps loss just because the other enchant is more expensive of course, common sense.) Also, keeping the 4-set bonus is something I try to do if possible.

Guild:
Do you know anyone in MoX who can vouch for you?: Nope, except if my brother gets accepted before me, then he can vouch for me, Tommee.
Why you want to join MoX, what type of guild you´re looking for, and what you´re looking for in a guild.
MoX seems like a fun guild in general, that also tries to achieve something in raiding. My two goals in WoW, are being a part of a social guild, and being part of it’s community, as well as being part of a raiding team, while trying to overcome challenges as  a team, as well as for myself, to get better, to be valuable to the team.
A guild that is perfect to me for that, has some social players that like to do stuff other than just progress/farm raiding, and has a raiding group in which making mistakes sometimes is not a reason to kick you, but also does not have solely stand-in-fire types in it.

What are your goals in wow, what do you want to achieve and how long do you plan to keep playing?

I am currently trying to get as much out of raiding as I can on my warlock, trying to learn encounters, and beat them afterwards, feels pretty rewarding, as the challenge is not always easy. At the same time I would love to get into raiding with my healer and tank at some points, to learn encounters from completely different points of view, as that makes me better on my main, as well as provide me with more challenges to overcome.

Additional Information:

Confirmation that you have read, understood and agree to abide by the MoX Charter: Yes.

Is there anything else you feel is relevant to your application or that you would like us to know?

For any additional questions, please contact me in any way shape or form, as this is of course just a form with general questions.

How did you come up with the name "Szemere"? Do you have some connection to Hungary by any chance?

I have a Hungarian friend, and started looking for Hungarian names for fun, and Szemere, meaning small man, demolisher, seemed quite nice for a gnome warlock. Gonna have to namechange now tho, cuz some dumb lvl 1 gnome warrior took my name, hoping to come up with an equally awesome name.

Ah, that explains it.

Good luck with your application by the way!
