How to use the volumcontroller in an ABC file
« on: 29 July, 2009, 09:59:11 am »
Another feature in the Music system is the volumcontroller that is declared by dynamic markings. I have been really longing for some kind of a volum controller. You can soften up some parts of a solo song and make in more powerfull in other parts just to use those dynamics. It's cool when you want the song to become more powerful at the end. To make a cool finale. THis feature I believe makes the song more dynamic/and more "real" , is difficult to explain..

you can just insert the dynamics where you want the part of the song to become louder for example |ABAF GFE2|+ff+cdec BcdB|c2A2 A2:| (Can't be inside a chord [+ff+ def], always outside +ff+[def]) The first marking you set, will last until another marking is set. (Just tested)

But first of all what I really want is to adjust the different instrumentpart within the song in a band. Because sometimes I feel that the instruments "compete" with eachother. And it sounds a bit messy. And then I can't relax listening to the song. If the volume aren't right mixed beetween the different instrumentpart, it could sound very wrong. In Mithrandir for example, I really like the horn, but it's very loud. And dominate the song too much. So if I could turn down the volum on horn it would be perfect.

The volum scale is beetween 0-127

+ppp+ for pianissisimo (or very very soft) volum=30

+pp+ for pianissimo (very soft) volum=45

+p+ for piano (soft) volum=60

+mf+ for metzo forte (or medium volume) - this is also the default volume level if nothing is specified. volum=90 (I guess it's this volum who is default for Lotro aswell)

+f+ for forte (loud) volum=105

+ff+ for fortissimo (very loud) volum=120

+fff+ for fortissisimo (very very loud) volum=127

First of all I really like to turn the volum on the whole instrumentpart not just a part of it. I have tried with the Horn in Northern light. Is just one bass tone. Following the song beetween verse and refrain. But I suspect it will be to loud an ruin the song.. So I have turned the volum down just to put the dynamic markings at the start of the ABC file. Like this:

I do hear a lot of difference beetween +ppp+ and +fff+

Ok I don't know how this will be, when the instrumentpart is synced. But I don't think the markings will affect the tempo/or other things..

This is really cool. And the song will be even more complete. When you have the possibilities to volumemix a bit. With this new feature, I only miss more instruments, and specialeffects, like reverb(echo), delay etc..That would be awesome

PS: Don't go +fff+ on Concerning hobbits..Please.. lol

Playing both LOTRO and TSW at the moment.
