Calard
« on: 27 August, 2011, 12:50:15 am »
ABOUT YOU:

Applications type (social/raider): Raider
Name: Oliver Hayler
Age: 17
Country: UK, Cambridge
What other games apart from WoW do you play?: Unless I have a little spare time, I like a bit of anything, especially Legend of Zelda.
A bit about yourself: I am a second year college student, studying games design.

ABOUT YOUR CHARACTER:

Character name: Calard
Class: Paladin
Spec(s): Protection/Tank
Level: 85
Professions: Jewelcrafting/Blacksmithing.
How often do you play WoW (typical weekly playtime and which hours)?:
It varies. Since I’ve been on holiday at the moment, its been very frequent. However, I am always around in the evenings, unless I have something planned, which I will say in advanced.

What high level alts do you have?: I have a Lvl 73 Shaman and Warrior, however, these two are Allience.

ABOUT YOU AS PLAYER:

Do you have Teamspeak? (Voice communication is essential to our raiding, although it is not required to have a mic unless you apply as tank): Yes

List the relevant raiding add-ons you use:
Tidy plates
Skada
Rating buster
OmniCC
DBM
Grid
Dominos

We expect all members to attend any raids with food and flasks to last the whole raid night and being repaired and ready to pull at 20.00

Our Raid times are from 20:00 to 0:00 server time with invites starting at 19:30; are you able to be available for the whole duration?
Thursday: Yes
Sunday:  Yes
Monday:  Yes

Have you been in another guild? Mutiple

Which one(s)? And why did you leave?

Voodoo Moose, Disbanded
Angels of Ares, was competing against 5 plate tanks (no thanks).
Alternate Reality, Was cut, due to certain conditions.

Please list your relevant raid experience, stating which encounters you have personal experience of at the current level cap:
8/13 Heroic in Tier 11, with Neferian Heroic as the final kill
6/7 Normal Firelands, (I have been kinda unlucky in the firelands at the moment)

IMPORTANT:

Now when you are done with the "basics", we want you to explain a little about different aspects of your character.
I have a double tanking set-up, an AOE/add spec, and a single-target/big self-heal spec. Each of these specs are useful in certain boss fights.
E.g. Lord Rhyolith fragments tanking, I would use the AOE Spec , easier to control my mana usage, and better control over the adds.
Baleroc/Majordomo staghelm, I would use my single-target spec, better control over survivability and bigger Word of Glory heals (IN macro combination with Scales of Life, Can heal a total of 110k and onwards).

Character:
Why did you chose the class you are now playing and the professions you selected?:
I choose to play Paladin Tanks, as they are like a swiss army-knife when it comes to cooldowns. We have many ways of surviving a situation, and also helping others when needed. I choose the professions, because I can choose whether to put Mastery or Stamina bonuses in my Jewelcrafter’s gems/extra sockets, and as they say, every little helps.

Talent specialisation:
Would you be willing to change your build for the guild?: Yes
Do you have two viable PvE speccs?: Yes

Gear:
Do you feel your character is sufficiently geared to compete in the Fireland encounters?: Yes
Where do you think your current equipment is lacking now?:
Gearwise, I could do with a bit more of everything. Though it would be nice to see more Mastery, dodge/parry, as Stamina will come as a certainty when getting a gear upgrade.

Guild:
Do you know anyone in MoX who can vouch for you?: Ailwyn, Merlene
Why you want to join MoX?: Hopefully, I will get some good raiding progression/experience out of raiding with this guild.

What type of guild are you looking for?
A hardworking guild, that strives to get better all the time. Also, a guild that doesn’t waste time when it comes to raiding.

What are your goals in wow, what do you want to achieve and how long do you plan to keep playing?
My goal in Wow, is to simply Master the role of Tank, and to become a hard-worker towards raiding. I don’t plan on quitting anytime soon.

Additional Information: I’m just your average Tank, trying to work hard, and striving to become better.

Confirmation that you have read, understood and agree to abide by the MoX Charter: Yes

Is there anything else you feel is relevant to your application or that you would like us to know?

Nothing worth mentioning.

Cool application, fun to read especially as a fellow Paladin tank ;)

But I'm just wondering, the only real difference between the two specs is that one has Guarded by the Light and the other one doesn't have it, in exchange for a little extra AoE. In my opinion Guarded by the Light is a must have talent on basically every fight. Personally for AoE fights (to make up for the loss of consecration) I save up 3 HP for Inquisition and start spamming HotR + HW; I rarely use Consecration in any raid and think it's a waste of mana.
Also why not get a mastery + runspeed enchant for your feet so you can spend those two points of Pursuit of Justice into Eternal Glory? Giving you a chance of not spending your 3 HP when healing yourself, thus being able to use it for another SotR > giving extra threat, although after the 200% threat buff I'm not sure that's still needed.. But it does help on a fight like Alysrazor, where you get a free heal of on yourself and if lucky, you can just just continue to batter on the Hatchling with SotR.

Just interested in your view on these things :)

Calard left the guild 10 hours ago, with as far as I know no message. If we won't hear anything else from him we will consider this trial ended. If something happened (he got hacked or whatnot) we are always happy to restart this application.

Ok

First off, for Sagiv's sake of wanted a explaination for my talents. First, maybe a requirement of thinking outside the box is in order.

The Pursuit of Justice Talent is better than the enchant on boots, as boots give between 7-10% movement, whislt PoJ gives 15%. Every little helps.

Guarded by Light is no longer a useful talent, unless your doing a 1 tank fight which YOU KNOW that you can use it to your full advantage. As I explained, Baleroc and Majordomo make a good example, and to some length, Shannox might need the GbL talents. Again, this talent requires timing, and since 4.1 change to WoG, it has become less useful. Use only on fight where you can predict damage.

Eternal Glory. This talent is crap, since 4.1 changed WoG to 20 second cooldown. And as for your Shield of Righteous vs. Seal talent, Seal's damage easily beats the bonus Shield damage. And again, its on a 20 second cooldown, with a 30% proc chance, which adds up to a very low percentage overall.

Finally, DON'T dismiss concencration. I know its expensive, but if you put at least 1 talent point into it for AoE Tanking, you have some CONTROL, over mana. Think about it, a non-talented AoE costs about 52% of mana. What you gonna do when your OoM? You cant really rely on Plea, as thats only 12% (18% if glyphed) mana back, on a 2 min cooldown. And the mana coming back from judgement is not great aswell. It is slow, and something you should not rely on. The only exception for not using concencration is on a 1 tank fight like Baleroc, but even so, concrecration = threat, even though its a little, as Tescos say, every little helps.

Now as to why I left...

The first reason is that the number of tanks I heard the guild has gotten recently, was quite shocking. And in all honesty, I dont wana compete againest that many tank again.

Also, Sagiv sent me the letter stating that my age was too young for the guild. Though he did say that he would make an exception, i dont wish to be a rule bender.

I hope this covers everything. Im sorry if this has caused any problems, and wish you the best.

Thanks for the explanation, happy there were no hard feelings :)
Good luck with your further raiding career, as even if it was only for one night, I can say you seemed like a very good tank.
Best of luck to you :).
